1993, a great year in death metal... and here we have the greatest album of all, Depravity's second EP. Hilariously enough, featuring Enska Viljanen from freaking Sonata Arctica on guitar, but man, an actual musician playing oldschool DM is pretty fucking sweet, I must say. Vocals are pretty damn guttural for their time, and even for today, as far as outwards go. Drumming's classic d-beat, obviously. Definitely like my favorite DM album ever.
Intestine Baalism is pretty much the pinnacle of the Japanese death metal scene. Formed back in '91, IB still keeps it oldschool as fuck without going stagnant like say... Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy, etc. (99% of their contemporaries). I guess it's because they've waited like 6 years between each release. Anyhow, Ultimate Insect is their third full length, from 2008, and it's what the dm scene's been craving forever, what oldschool revival bands like Bloodbath can't achieve.
1.) smoke a couple of joints and drink some vladdy
At The Throne Of Judgement is one of many many bands within that "deathcore" movement... but they deserve some credit, cause well, they're actally good. Kind of like The Black Dahlia Murder (classic melodic death metal riffs, varied guttural-to-high rasp vocals), with a modern metalcore tinge to it. Also, there aren't breakdowns every 5 seconds, and no ultra-brutal Acacia Strain junts either. Basically, if you like circle pit focused Southern mdm, fucking get The Arcanum Order.
