Desobediencia Civil - No Hay Libertad Sin Desobediencia
I stole this from another blog (well someone sent me the link which I stole) to put up on here. This is really fast, abrasive and angry Anarcho-Punk from Mexico. Very straightforward duel male/female vocals screaming into your ears. Hardcore fans of anarcho-punk will certainly dig this, those that want to check out a Mexican punk scene can start off with this.

Sunrise.Sunset. - The Sacrifice Of Cupid
Very Chaotic and loud, abrasive and spastic screamo that's similar to Last Man Laughing. As far as experimental Screamo goes, the crown goes to Index For Potential Suicide, but this isn't so far behind. It's really scratchy and mad, totally psychotic. A little bit like Archeopteryx, but a bit heavier. Can't really say that much more aside from this is some mean skreamies.

Explosions InThe Sky - All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone
Since Ripping the City of Caterpillar Cd was so fun, I decided to do this one too. Bonus CD as well. A long time ago, I gave my 12" inch version of this away (Bonus Cd that came with it too) to some guy as a gift of some sort. Pretty good stuff. And now I know most of you don't like what I put up on this blog, but this is a really good album, instrumental stuff that they call Post-Rock (like you already know).

City Of Caterpillar - City Of Caterpillar
This morning I got up and was bored so I decided to try ripping one of my CDs using Mediamonkey Gold (the NOT free version, which is awesome btw) and this was the lucky winner. So here it is in V0, I'm sure there are plenty around the internet already, but WHO CARES?! You can update your 192 or V2 or whatever right now if you want, or you can skip out on this momentous occasion. Quite frankly, this is REALLY good, probably as good as this type of hardcore is going to get; better than Envy's Insomniac Doze and better than most things Circle Takes the Square will put out. But I think my time has passed with this recording. I don't like it as much as I used to, although I suppose it's not so bad. WHUTVR.

The VSS - Nervous Circuits Reissue
Pretty dark no wave inspired Post Hardcore featuring members of the band Angel Hair. You can easily tell they inspired a shit load of bands from their super sonic sound which includes (at times) noisy guitars, Synthesizers, Keyboards, and a megaphone. That's all I have to say, you should hear the rest for yourself (they had a lot to say)

One day I'll be able to dye my hair blond and it'll be normal (again). This is a pretty good EP from a pretty sassy band. RIP Willi Graves. Living members went on to join/form The Muslims/The Soft Pack, Crocodiles and other bands. :)

Pack of Vipers - Demo, split with To Fester Within, 2nd Demo
Early 00's screamo with a dark tinge to it? I guess a lot of this stuff was pretty dark and moody in the early 00's (Rue Morgue, DoFH, ILM, Part II). Lots of instrumental parts and grooves that seque into complete shout fests. Pretty heavy too. Nothing screechy though. Give it a try, it's not mandatory, but seriously.. the gems are GEMS.

Various Artists - Emo In The Abyss
I'm going to say that this was a French MP3mo release, probably circulated around slsk or mp3.com. Lots of variety here, you find classic screamo songs by The Apollo Program, Gantz and Amanda Woodward, as well as more acts that have a total mainstream sound but were kept underground. It's pretty cool to see that at some time, stuff that sounded like A Static Lullaby was being mixed with more chaotic screamo stuff. Not necessary the best compilation, but still has its own hits.

A Rose For Ona - Demo
A mysterious and super long forgotten metalcore band. Nothing special and maybe a little derivative to a few of you, but try to fit into your girl jeans and rock out again like you did in 2002. This is from a time when stuff like Belay My Last and Underneath the Gun were trying out 16 year old bassists with fauxhawks, so maybe not 2002, but more like 2006. Anyways, I'm sure this demo predates that. I can compare it to genre snapping screamo like Dispensing of False Halo and myspace mp3 2 step bands like Judeah quite safely. Basically this sounds totally neat, but other than my own speculation I have no idea who this band is.

Wellspring - The Divide
I need to plug this. It's my friend Jon's new EP, and all that needs to be said is that the guy's a great musician and vocalist. It falls under the blanket of black metal I guess, but it's got a progressive tinge, kind of like Opeth... but that doesn't really do it justice, it's a very eclectic mix of many styles flowing together to say the least... like, there's post hardcore-ish breakdowns and such.
Title track is the best.

Raein - Il n'y pas de Orchestre
For some reason I listen to these guys a shit ton at the beginning of November up 'till my birthday every year, and this year is no different.
This album has "Tigersuit" on it, which is arguably their best track, and irrefutably their most popular track - which supposedly pissed them off because it's the only thing anybody ever wanted to hear them play live lol.
When I was like 15 I thought track 5 was called "Pterodactyl Fluctuating Faster Than The Speed Of Light".
The instrumental hidden track at the end of "I Was Fine Before You Came" is pretty freaking king.
I don't think anything else needs to be said.

Between The Buried And Me - Demo
This is BTBAM when they started out as a continuation of Prayer For Cleansing. Very cool proto-deathcore with awesome melodic leads and really interesting rhythms during der breakdowns. Also, before Tommy fucked up his voice and then learned to scream properly, so his vocals sound pretty different/interesting.

Vile - Depopulate
Brutal death metal... what could we say about it? Generic? Definitely, I can think of at least ten bands off the top of my head that haven't done anything of their own, other than taking Suffocation riffs and speeding them up and turning them to utter garbage, example: Deeds Of Flesh. Boring? No way! there's nothing more engaging than DEET DWEEDLY BEEP BOP JUN DUN DUN with a pig going grroooo groooo eee eeee eee over it. Pointless? Hahahah, anybody who's ever played an instrument can pick this out within five seconds of listening to most BDM.
So at this point, I'm wondering, how could Suffocation, Malignancy, Kronos, Cyptopsy, and a select few other bands have done it so well? This genre is probably the biggest pool of dime-a-dozen guitarists playing with drummers who don't know a single thing about rudiments to ever exist. None of the bands stand out remotely... well, that's a bit rash, because clearly A FEW do, and maybe those bands aren't even that good, but at least they don't sound exactly like Pierced From Within thrown into a blender with a pig and swamp thing.
Now Vile, here's a band that's got it right. Their music isn't "brutal" because it's an endless slurr of failed tech riffs and overdone breakdowns. This band is brutal because it's just extremely relentless, straight forward death metal. It's not too fast and pointless. It's not too slow and chugging, and it doesn't sound identical to Suffocation. Vile, you can tell, actually know how to play their instruments. The drummer sounds like a machine, but he's not trying to show you how omg fast his blast beats are. The guitarists don't overuse pinch harmonics and chugged riffs, never noticeably make an error (impressive in this scene), and actually vary their riffing style, something the reader should know I specifically look for in death metal.
You have relentless high speed tech riffing a-la Origin and Animosity (albeit more tastefully done than Origin), evil sounding tremolo riffs a-la early Decapitated, and actually heavy melodic riffs similar to what was so very huge in the south around 2004, even some black metal riffs here and there. It's like what I look for in deathcore, but heavier, and with much less mindless breakdowns... and the breakdowns they use have interesting rhythms and a kind of Cannibal Corpse-esque sound.
As a vocalist myself, I have to comment on how nasty the vocals are on here. The growls have the perfect combo of gurgle-y backing to a raspy overtone that I think creates the perfect guttural. The guy is obviously not trying to force his voice deeper than he should to compensate for weak tone, this guy has perfect tone. Albeit his highs are a bit generic and weak, but they're rarely used, and usually tastefully layered in the background for effect.
The negatives of this album would be... well, it's brutal death metal. No matter how good a brutal death metal band is in comparison to its contemporaries, it has to be really damn good to catch my interest. Secondly, the solos. I cannot stand when death metal bands try to solo, because it's always godawful. Finally, sameness, the songs themselves have a good variation of riffing style, but every song features a different take on each of those types of riffs, just in a different structure... it's less samey than say, Waking The Cadaver or Devourment, but it's not the ultimate gem of variation for sure.
Thank God this album is so short (six seconds short of 30 minutes).
Download, this shit thug.

The Saddest Landscape & Pianos Become The Teeth
Oh man, this is beautiful. The Saddest Landscape's track, Death Becomes Us reminds me a lot of stuff like Ampere and Orchid, great dissonant down picked riffs, cool melodic leads, awesome bass, very sarcastic sounding vocals. Pianos Become The Teeth on the other hand seemed to be going for a more French sound, a la Sed Non Satiata and Mihai Edrisch on The New Normal. Both tracks are pretty much perfect.
Check it out.

Deafheaven
Deafheaven is a black metal band from San Fransisco that recently signed to Deathwish. They play a lighter, more melodic style along the lines of Wolves In The Throne Room, I guess you could say it's shoegaze influenced, but I find that comparison with this style of BM to be kind of ridiculous, cause the influence is for the most part very minimal. Deafheaven also uses some chord progressions that you'd expect to hear in post-hardcore songs from like 2001, which is kind of cute I guess. Great this a great Demo EP

September 22nd - Hello, Throne
I forget who showed me this, one of their friends is all I recall, but these dudes put this album up on myspace a while back... and of course myspace deleted the link because you know, it's TOTALLY illegal for unsigned bands to put their own uncopyrighted material up for free download. Totally illegal...
Anyway, this is a bizarre mix of screamo, post metal, and post hardcore. Kind of long winded, but extremely groovy and relaxing sounding. Vocals really remind me of As Cities Burn, but I remember their one friend getting offended and telling me there's no similarity between the vocals... judge fo yoself.
Oh, and it's a concept album about The Book Of The Duchess by William Chaucer.

...Of Death - Discography
I was going to upload all of these one at a time, but I decided that it's just a little more easier to digest all of these at once. This band formed in the heyday of hardcores kittenviolence phase, they are very fast, noisy and screechy. Beloved by all those that enjoy the skramz and jamz. Lyrics are discernible and guitars are weird, everything about this band is 100% legitimately screamo.

Adonis Battlefield - Discography
Adonis Battlefield were a highly chaotic skreamies band for a quick minute or two. Forming in 2003 and recording a Demo, a 7" and a split with D'amore. Like mentioned before their sound is really short, spastic and very fun. If you can get the lyrics, which gradually change from joke-like seriousness to rip-my-heart-out, you can sing a long perfectly. The band is also a master in breakdowns when they throw them around. Get their discography on their bandcamp page, it's free, it's safe, it's fun.

White Riot - DP
The singer for this band has the most beautiful punk voice in the west coast, that is a large statement but not far from the truth. Very much an aggressive punk band shouting politics and with enough grooves for great moshing moments. Two of the band members are still in their teens and play pretty good, although in my mind halfway sloppy with no care in the world equates to being good. Here iss their myspace, if you want a copy of their demo then they'll send one to you.

Cerote - Two-Face
The proper definition of Cerote is turd. But this band isn't at all exactly a piece of shit although they have self described themselves as a joke early on. Started in 2005/2006 while in High School to fuck around with the Los Angeles' bloated amount of poser punks, and still doing the same 4 to 5 years later. Live, this band is full of high octane excitement. Crossover; we live in good times. Scope some of their amazing music here.

Xibalba - Madre Mia Gracias Por Los Dias
I was literally just recced this, but it's fucking brutal, so I need to share it. These guys have a really interesting mix of "tough guy" hardcore and metalcore that I don't think I'd usually like, but there's just something crushing about their sound. Some of the breakdowns are just goddamn heavy, and some of the riffs sound like The Acacia Strain. The vocalist sounds kind of like Jesse Alford, which is weird cause he's hispanic too. IDK good shit.

New Miseries - I Am Without Me
Per request of my niggu Gabby. They're a pretty emotive melodic hardcore band from north east PA... I only have given it a cursery listen thus far because I've been checking so much out that Manny's posted on here recently. Anyway, from what I've heard, they've got a good sound, very raw, frustrated sounding vocals, kind of reminded me of Oliver Sykes at points.

Rapider Than Horsepower - This Is My Big Night
This band is very off putting, very relaxed in some hipster daze but still aggressive. Although they have nothing in common, the lyrical and vocal output remind me of Glassjaw, maybe because they both have unique voices, while the music (with the vocals as well) is very jazz like, or funk like, or both. Really a unique band. I'm just going to put them in the emo fodder folder because I really like calling everything and anything emo. They've got some sassiness factor bleeding through their guitars as well... but I can't put my fucking finger on why this sounds good to me.

Hey Predator! - Spit Smoke, Black Factories
This is like some sort of tricky, bag of change emo... if it's even emo in the first place. Some twinkles here. You can compare the band to the emo legends Kolya and Ohana. Check this out if that style of music is your thing. Like mentioned earlier, the guitars head towards twinkles and are ever changing, and, like implied earlier, the vocals are some double falsettos spouting out stream of thought like lyrics with certain catchy edges. Fall On Deaf Years - We Can Do Anything!
The band is a bix mix of Dispensing of False Halos and Welcome the Plague Year along with a little bits and pieces of well regarded skramz and jamz picked up over the years. Really jumpy drum playing and awesome vocals make me wish they were still playing around, sing-a-longs rejoice; had this metalcore sound stemming from pure skreamo anger. Lasted from 1997 - 2003 with many recordings (get into contact with me so I can have the ones that I don't have) including this Full length. Members went on to form dozens of bands. Very good.

Eyes Like Black Stars - Demo
A band from Australia supposedly formed at a Love... Like Electrocution show; only lasted for a year or so and there are hints of a full length S/T or this demo could very well be it. That's all I know, if It's anything to know at all. I feel like I could very well describe this as Love... Like Electrocution styled Aussie kitten violence, but that wouldn't be cool. They are, I mean, like Love... Like Electrocution, but they aren't average enough to be pigeon held. They have both male and female vocals with twangy guitars, playing fast enough for you to hold onto their ideas but not slow enough to where you can grasp them. Very Kitten Violence.

Damezumari - No Hugging = No Learning
Damezumari is a more melodic/ambient screamo band in the vein of Funeral Diner. Great post-rock soundscapes, interesting chord progressions, emotive drumming (their current drummer is incredible, but not on this release). I recently was able to catch them at a show at The Secret Art Space in Bethlehem, they were really awesome down to Earth dudes, and their singer was wearing an Amanda Woodward shirt which was p cool.

TFFNI - Cloud Formations
Okay, first off. Todd Rupp is the fucking man. He is hands down one of the most talented artists in the Lehigh Valley. He and his boy have been working on this project for quite some time, and I've always very much appreciated it, but unfortunately never could find a ride to any of their shows.
Anyway, onto the music itself. I've become somewhat of a noise fan lately, not like a huge connoisseur or anything, but when I like noise, I like it a lot. That being said TFFNI is definitely one of the coolest noise projects to come out of our area. They have a lot of dark ambience a-la Brenoritvrzorkrahowthefuckdoyouspelltheirnamefuckit, without any of the annoyingly bad attempts at black metal. Lots of cool vocal effects though. Lots of shrieks varied in volume, which I love and should probably work on myself.
I believe the last track is a live track from the Mammoth Shed hence the title @Mammoth Shed, and it's freaking awesome. It sounds like fucking men losing their minds in some industrial plant.
Anyhow, check it fools:

Skycamefalling - Skycamefalling EP
IDK if I've ever mentioned this before, but I am HUGELY into Skycamefalling and have been since I was pretty young, courtesy of my friend Andrew, to whom I give infinite props. Anyhow, Skycamefalling was a band that started out as an extremely raw metallic hardcore band, with much of the hardcore influence left untainted, yet they utilized dissonant tritonery a-la bands such as Coalesce and Disembodied, but with a strangely different execution. They later grew to follow a more melodic, post hardcore influenced sound on 10.21, and then, with this EP took those influences to a higher level. This EP is beautiful, the songs still have intense hardcore segments, but much of it is soothing melodic post hardcore, with emotive clean singing from both Cameron and Christopher.
So if you're interested in metalcore with post hardcore influences that isn't a butchered overlay of the two in the most generic modern fashion, then I highly suggest you check this out.

Vis-A-Vis - Demo
I found this tagless (and tried to fill in what I know) on slsk and didn't bother trying to figure out ALL the pieces to this bands puzzle, most of what I found will be mentioned here or you will be linked to it. Basically this is, in my opinion, really beautiful sounding screamo. Most will tag it, respectively, as post-hardcore or something but what does that really mean anyways? Sounds very mainstreamish, with no shrieks but a lot of uplifting shouting and growling. The music is low budget Hot Cross inspired I think, taking cues from some twinkles (this band broke up in 2007 I think) before they were a big deal, and totally reminds me of a much unfocused Kanaris (Who are steadily growing to being one of my favorites) which is a good thing, can't have too many incarnations of the same wonderful sound :)... The guitars are the best part. Here's their myspace.
Here's a picture of the singer, he's very screamo:

Katja - Demo
This is stuff you'll probably find on their discography but I haven't gotten it yet. This is written on their last.fm:
It really describes absolutely nothing. Has buildups that aren't buildups, they're severely rocking at all times, nothing low. Shouty, like usual.
Katja - Demo
http://www.mediafire.com/?jdp2p6aycn965nh
The words of a mere mortal cannot describe the juggernaut that was Katja. After distancing themselves from their hobbit influenced origins, the boys emerged like some sort of deranged butterfly from a denim cocoon, influencing all and ripping off the rest. Throughout their all too brief existence, guitars got swung, opposing drummers were put to shame, vocal chords ended up bloody, headbands were worn and jobs at cake factories abandoned all in the name of the almighty rock and/or roll. Toronto, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and beyond. They came, they saw, they broke your heart and made sex noises while you were trying to sleep. Where the fuck did you go?

Juniper Strain - Demo
So far I've put up bands who have little to no history online (most of these have little to no post rock influence and are before the kinsella onslaught, this is all emo), which is great because their music was still salvaged BUT it's getting really annoying not knowing what's going on. This band only has two listeners on their last.fm page which makes me want to know how many more bands are lost in this haze. Shouty off beat screamo based hardcore with weir guitar tones. I wish the vocals were recorded lower so we could hear the bass and drums more, but that's all there is wrong with this. If you dig bands just playing through their songs and don't want to put up with other shit than get this.

A Million Knives Lie In Wait - Demo
Only a two song demo from a band that I couldn't find anything about online aside from them being from Roseburg/Portland, Oregon. They must be known enough to have a line or two of history on their last.fm page. Again, shouty hardcore, vocals are gritty and sound teary eyed from time to time, and the musicianship is there but hardly worked on. Sloppy like normal and a little blurry, when the first track ends it quickly segues into track two...

I don't know anything about this band, their last.fm page is emptier than my head and the bands name is hard to search through on google. Great sound though, their music is a tad bit traditional, as in you've heard something like this before, but what've you got left to complain about? Similar artists on last.fm are Schematic of a Waking Life and XVPOPDMX all the while they have been tagged as grindcore and they don't sound anything like grindcore. Skramz and Jamz.

Adriell - Demo
I am back to bring you some of the worlds most mysterious screamo releases. Aside from After School Knife Fight being the most famous yet obscure band to ever release anything, Adriell also are obscure yet not famous. There are a lot of reasons why, but mainly the important one is that screamos tend to forget everything. With highly violent music being completely 1999-2004 sounding and vocals that are on par with ...Of Death screechiness, Adriell were genius. A completely maddening concoction of short, fast and chaotic songs. Their demo is poorly recorded (but still perfectly audible) and a little high, but I think that adds a lot of mysticism to the bands artwork. If you already like the skreamies than you're going to like this.
If you're interested in knowing more, because there might be more, than check out their myspace and last.fm pages. Oh yes, this band has most definitely been broken up for a few years now.

Depravity - Galvanizer
Seriously one of the most awesome, cheesy osdm albums ever. This is sinister, with cheesy keyboards, and standard '80s death metal sloppiness. Great album when you just want fun oldschool death metal.
download
Depravity is probably one of the most listenable oldschool death metal bands ever. They're sufficiently doomy. They have guttural vocals. They have sinister black metal influenced tremolo segments. They have oldschool metal "evil" sounding keyboards. They have a competent metal drummer, this early in the extreme metal scene.
Depravity is one of my favorite bands ever, if you haven't, look back in our archives for Silence Of The Centuries by Depravity, as it's they're most mature album ever. In fact, my favorite death metal album ever.

Thank God - For Pregnant Virgins
I bought this five months ago or so for $3, or maybe it was 3 months ago; something about the number threee (3 e's). I had slept on this band, noticed some reviews on this release for the past year or so but for a while I was letting myself sleep on Screamo/Hardcore releases, boy was that a mistake. This band reminds me of Antioch Arrow, they are fast and sloppy with lyrics that only meth addicts will appreciate. This is really intense and although the main vocalist is not a shrieker, there is some shrieking going on and it's magnificent. A must. They have 3 splits (Life At These Speeds, Tigershark, Monarcs and Deepslauter), maybe some tapes, some cdr's, and a new album out named Ice/Age but I haven't caught a glimpse of it anywhere I frequent (online and off, not going to google search) and I don't want to buy anything online either... Let me know if it's a good one.

apple NOT ASTEROID - Until The Sun Burns Out
Lots of things happened in between 2003 - 2007. THE SCENE was super popular for some reason, bands were imitating both new and old underOATH and real skramz/chicken violence and fake screamo were basically one and the same for some areas of the world. One area was Chino Hills, California which gave birth to the legendary apple NOT ASTEROID (and A Static Lullaby). This band was so definitive that they are mentioned on underOATHS wikipedia page as being a big influence. This band is one of those that I consider screamo that others would consider post hardcore and so on and so forth; basically they sound like underOATH's the Changing of Times album with less production. They have two EP's, one of them being this one, and a full length that I cannot find for some fucking reason. Oh well, god bless purevolume. Speaking of God Bless, this is a xChristianx band.

Kanaris - Kanaris
Kanaris happen to be legendary in the unknown screamo realm, you probably have never even heard of them and do not care. Why are they unknown? I don't know since their sound has been imitated constantly over and over until we got something like Touche Amore, La Dispute and Suis La Lune it seems. I mean sure screamo by the turn of the century became watered down metalcore of all kinds, but the genres blur too much to care (you can hear New Brunswick influences). I'm done telling jokes, kind of. Seriously, Kanaris generally sounds like an Iron Maiden influenced skramz (and jamz) band. There are two more EP's but they're all the same songs that are on here just recorded differently.
*funny story: when I first met Mappy (online) he was telling me about his bands and how neat they were so I sent him Kanaris mp3's telling him that it was my band. trolled/pwned.

The 1985 - Nerve Eighty
Existing from 1996 - 2000 and generally well liked. Even though their sound is compared to Arab On Radar they have this charm that Arab on Radar do not have, maybe it's their mysterious name or their groovy song structures. I find that most will have trouble understanding the lyrics, and most will go straight for the noisy guitars. The band is like an LSD fueled trip through a wasteland, a pit stop in the middle of nowhere. It gets hot and you're hallucinating because of the heat and LSD, soon your mind loses control and "It's My Antennae" (the definitive Emo anthem) is blasting through your speakers.

Heaven In Her Arms - Paraselene
I think these guys will always be one of my favorite bands ever. Track 3 (The Morbidity Of White Pomegranate) reminds me of Pretty Soon Something Is Going To Change... by Norma Jean... it's not the same riff or anything, but it has a similar sludgy dissonance to it. I love it. In fact the whole album has a more subdued, darker, more dissonant sound than their older material. It seems these guys are starting to find their own sound as opposed to sounding like an awkward, if sweet, Envy clone.
